CHEAPEST ONLINE LICENSE DISC RENEWAL

Two popular options come via government – the Department of Transport’s (DOT’s) eNatis website is applicable countrywide. Only if you’re based in the Western Cape, you can access e-Services. Each come with a R72 service fee and R99 delivery fee, for a total cost of R171.

Remember, this is over and above the license renewal fee for your particular car – which is based on your vehicle’s mass and what province you’re in. We explained that in-depth in another article which you can view HERE.

Thankfully there are more than just government institutions to renew your license disc online. There are specialist online services, banks, retailers, and even the post office.

1. PAYCITY

The online service of PayCity is the most affordable at R113.85. Thanks to no service fee or delivery fee. The service is only available in major cities though, which means delivery of your license disc outside of a main city centre will draw delivery fee. Also, the PayCity portal also gives you the option to view and pay speeding and traffic fines, municipal accounts and prepaid utilities. Register for it HERE.

2. SOUTH AFRICAN POST OFFICE

The next cheapest to renew your license disc online is through the South African Post Office (SAPO), including the R72 service fee and R75 delivery fee, it works out to R147 total. This service is available countrywide. However, we would recommend checking the list of the participating post offices HERE because SAPO is in rather a sad state at the moment and who knows which branches are operational. Contact the SAPO call centre on 0860 111 502.

3. PICK N PAY

Independent retailers like Pick n Pay also offer the value-add services like online license disc renewal to their customers. You can apply online with Pick n Pay but note that the retailer is the most expensive option here with a R250 service fee and R79 delivery fee, adding up to R329 in total. And it’s not available in the Western Cape.

CHECK BANKING INSTITUTIONS

Several banks offer the option to renew your license online or through a banking app. However, depending on your bank, you will have to check what additional admin and courier fees apply. Similarly, if your vehicle is financed through Wesbank, they can assist you.

First National Bank (FNB), which charges its customers no delivery fee but rather a R199 service fee to renew their license disc online. This only applies if you live in Gauteng and City of Cape Town. Click HERE for more.

• Copy of your existing vehicle license disc.
• Proof of residence (no older than three months.
