The Department of Employment and Labour has listed the seven most in-demand jobs in SA for 2024. If you’re taking stock this festive season and planning a career change in the New Year, these most in-demand jobs in SA should definitely be on your list.

The reason these most in-demand jobs in SA need filling, reports Business Tech, is due to skills shortages and inefficiencies by the Department of Home Affairs to clear a massive visa backlog of migrants who have applied for them.

So, while tens of thousands of skilled migrants have applied but cannot get into the country, here are the most in-demand jobs in SA that need filling. They include:

  • Business and Management
  • Engineering
  • Financial Sectors
  • Marketing
  • Medical and Health
  • Arts and Media

The Department of Home Affairs lists this scarcity of skills on its website and encourages SA citizens and foreigners to obtain work visas for South Africa. However, the employer in question must also provide evidence as to why they couldn’t find a South African citizen with the skills to fill the position.

Filling these most in-demand jobs in SA is no easy task for corporations. There is a massive 48-week backlog at Home Affairs for critical-skills work visas. The Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, previously said the backlog is unlikely to be cleared before June 2024.
