As we know, cash-strapped South African motorists got klapped this week with another massive fuel-price increase at the pumps. But, hell, if we didn’t laugh about it, we’d cry. So let’s embrace it and compare the 2023 Rugby World Cup fuel prices of all 20 competing nations. Bust these figures out during a game and your mates will be seriously impressed with your knowledge of international fuel prices.

Pool A is made up of hosts France, the mighty New Zealand, Italy, Uruguay and our neighbors Namibia. In Pool B there’s us, Ireland, Scotland, Tonga and Romania. Competing in Pool C we have Wales, Australia, Fiji, Georgia, Portugal. And, finally, Pool D is made up of England, Japan, Argentina, Samoa, Chile.

Without further ado, we’ve gathered all the latest data from Global Petrol Prices and put it into South African Rand. Similarly, we’ve priced petrol rather than diesel or other grades of fuel to keep things simple. Here’s how each nation ranks, along with their current World Rugby ranking for good measure.

There you have it, the 2023 Rugby World Cup fuel prices make for interesting reading, don’t you think? When Argentina runs out onto the pitch you can now appreciate just how good they’ve got it back at home.

And, hai shame, those poor Italians (R40.30) and French (R39.60). They probably need a government loan to fill their tour busses with those prices. The same can be said for most Europeans nations, in fact. Besides, Georgia (R22.30). What are they mixing in their tanks to keep fuel so cheap?

SOUTH AFRICA IS STILL AFFORDABLE

You see, don’t stress. Even after our most recent fuel-price hike, South Africa (R24.18) ranks in the top half on the competing nations, at number seven. Although we’ll be hoping for a lot better than that at the actual 2023 Rugby World Cup. Go Bokke!
