Miners have descended on the area near Ladysmith amidst social media reports of a diamond rush after people posted photos on Facebook.

A fight between two groups of suspected illegal miners in Mpumalanga left 4 people dead. The bodies of the deceased were recovered from the mineshaft where they were dumped, on Wednesday.

The suspects, including two teenagers, will be applying for bail on Thursday, 31 December 2020

These arrests represent the North West policing unit’s intensified efforts to clamp down on illicit mining activity and illegal immigration in the province.

Police said the gruesome discovery was made on Thursday.
