Rulani reveals what FIFA President Infantino told him after final

Infantino, who watched the final from the stand, was seen having a brief chat with Rulani before handing him his winner’s medal.

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed what was said to him by FIFA president Gianni Infantino after the final of the inaugural African Football League.

Rulani’s side defeated Wydad Casablanca 2-0 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, to win the tie 3-2 in the final.

Infantino, who watched the final from the stand, was seen having a brief chat with the Downs coach before handing him his winner’s medal.

Infantino has been in South Africa for a few days leading up to the AFL final. He was present during the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday alongside Caf president Dr Patrice Motsepe.

Rulani and Sundowns gets praised by FIFA boss

Following the conclusion of the match, Rulani told journalist what the FIFA president said to him

“If I can tell you something, as I walked onto the stage, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the CAF president and our former club president congratulated me, and as I walked to the FIFA president Mr. Infantino, the first thing he said to me was ‘your team plays magnificent football’,” Rulani said as per iDiski Times.

Mokwena gave praise to his players for showing character after going down 2-1 in the first leg and then winning at home.

“It’s difficult to talk. The conditions are very difficult but God is good and he loves us all,” Rulani said.
