Kaizer Chiefs veteran Bernard Parker remains a stalwart of the Amakhosi team and will be a key player in Saturday’s Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.

Now 35, goals have been hard to come by in recent seasons, but as long as coach Stuart Baxter believes in him, Parker will remain a key member of the Glamour Boys’ squad.

1. Bernard Melvin Parker was born on 16 March 1986 in Reiger Park, a township near Boksburg

2. He excelled at a variety of sports growing up, including short and long-distance running and received Eastern Gauteng colours in swimming

3. Parker made his professional debut for Hellenic FC which was later bought and renamed Benoni Premier United

4. He remained with the club when it was once again renamed – this time Thanda Royal Zulu FC – and relocated to Durban

5. In 2009 to obtained a transfer to European Cup Winners Red Star Belgrade in Serbia. However, his stay was cut short after the club had cash flow problems and owed its players’ salaries

6. In 2011 Parker secured a move to Kaizer Chiefs

7. In the 2013/14 season he won the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award with 10 goals – the lowest number it’s ever taken to win the award

8. At last count, Parker, who wears the #25 jersey at Kaizer Chiefs, has made 344 appearances for Amakhosi in all competitions and has scored 58 goals

9. Parker made his Bafana Bafana debut against Malawi in 2007 and has 72 caps and 23 goals in all competitions to his name

10. He married Wendy Cherry in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal on 16 June 2012
