Legendary South African defender David Kannemeyer has also voiced his concerns as far as Kaizer Chiefs struggles and lambasts the bosses.

The retired left-back, Kannemeyer, who played for Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns says the problems at Naturena are not only on the field of play.

Kannemeyer spoke to a local football website, FARPost indicating that his former club, Chiefs must look at DStv Premiership rivals such as Sundowns.

DAVID KANNEMEYER LAMBASTS POOR PLANNING AT CHIEFS

The Cape Town-based legend who also played for Cape Town Spurs and Bafana Bafana lashed out at Chiefs bosses for not having a proper plan in place.

Kannemeyer also explained that for Amakhosi to enjoy success and return to their glory days, they must come up with an effective scouting department and revisit their long-term plans.

This comes as the Soweto giants, Chiefs endured yet another trophyless campaign under coach Arthur Zwane.

To make things worse, the club’s die-hard supporters vented their anger and hurled objects at Zwane in their 1-0 defeat against SuperSport United last weekend.

“I think the biggest issue is Chiefs don’t have a long-term plan like Sundowns. I don’t know what is their long-term plan,” Kannemeyer told FARPost.

“Clearly Sundowns have dominated over the last couple of years because they have a long-term plan and bring in quality players.

“They (Chiefs) need to sit down and re-think what they really want in the next five to 10 years.”

KANNEMEYER LOOKS AT SUNDOWNS AND CHIEFS DIFFERENCES

The man who is not afraid to speak his mind believes that Chiefs management should look at Masandawana who have dominated the domestic scene over the past five seasons.

Under coach Rulani Mokwena, Sundowns scooped the league title for the sixth season in a row and Kannemeyer wants Chiefs to be inspired.

“People always say Sundowns got money, Chiefs got money as well. Sundowns don’t just buy any player. They bring in a player that is going to fit in the system very well,” added the unimpressed legend.

“Sundowns got a scouting system that is very great, at the moment Chiefs haven’t got that. They have been struggling to get the right players.”

While Chiefs failed to lift silverware for eight seasons since the 2014/15 season under Stuart Baxter, it is a different story for Sundowns.

The Tshwane giants have collected 14 trophies, seven league titles, a CAF Champions League trophy, CAF Super Cup, an MTN8 title, two Nedbank Cups, and as many Telkom Knockouts Cups.
