Supersport mentioned Williams in Mokoena’s emotional farewell post and it seems like a farewell his own could be coming soon too.

Williams a one club man so far

Williams has been with SuperSport since he was a teenager, moving to the club from his hometown Gqeberha. He then rose through the development ranks at the club, before finding himself as it’s number one goal keeper from a young age. Furthermore, he has established himself as a stalwart of the club having made over 253 appearances for the Tshwane-based outfit at just the age of 30.

Having been at the club for virtually his entire adult life, won so many trophies with SuperSport including two Nedbank Cup’s and a solitary MTN 8, it would be understandable if Williams felt like he, just like Mokoena and others who have left Matstatsantsa also needs a fresh new challenge. That type of occurrence and day seems to be one club CEO Stan Matthews seems to have already envisaged and made peace with.

Commenting on how emotional saying goodbye to Mokoena was on the day of his much publicised move to Sundowns, Matthews hinted at Williams’ on departure from SuperSport in the not too distant future. He also spoke about how much more emotional that would be for him and everybody associated with the club.

Hint that he could also be on his way out of the club soon

“But we will probably take out the tissues box and wipe our tears for Ronwen. He will eventually move. He has been here since he was a kid and has been a great servant. So his time will come, but its all up to him, when he is ready to move” said Matthews to SABC Radio

Matthews once admitted that Williams had approached with concern that he was selling all of SuperSports best players, so how does he expect them to compete for leading honours. Maybe the loss of Mokoena and potential Mbule at the end of the season , could prove the final straw for Bafana Bafana’s number and captain. Watch the space.
