Sorry Chiefs, this striker target is NOT heading to Naturena

Chiefs are known to be on the hunt for another striker, but sought-after Khanyisa Mayo reportedly won’t be leaving Cape Town City.

As Kaizer Chiefs begin planning for the next transfer window, it’s become evident they will be looking to recruit a new striker in order to improve their firepower up front.

It remains to be seen if the Soweto giants have any joy in luring a big-name player to Naturena, with Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo having been one player who has regularly been linked with the Soweto giants.

However, as reported by SABC Sport, Cape Town City have now acted quickly and apparently extended the playmaker’s contract to June 2028.

With the club clearly having no interest in losing the services of such a talented player, only a substantial selling price could somehow see the striker leave.

As it is, though, Cape Town City first exercised the option in his contract before now reportedly tabling a blockbuster new offer.

With Chiefs set to lose out on this target, below we take a look at a couple of other playmakers linked to the club.

Could Chiefs have a chance of snapping up any of these players?

Etiosa Godspower Ighodaro

Interestingly, Chiefs are said to have entered the race for the somewhat underrated but talented Sundowns striker who has been impressing while on loan at Chippa United.

The youngster is said to be in high demand as clubs from Europe and North Africa have apparently been tracking his progress, but Soccer Laduma reports that Chiefs are also eyeing the Nigerian.

“Both the technical team and management have agreed that if they can’t get Khanyisa Mayo they should go for Ighodaro,” a source commented.

Fiston Mayele

Meanwhile, according to KickOff.com, part of Chiefs’ striker search has taken them to Tanzania where Young Africans playmaker Fiston Mayele has reportedly caught their eye.

The 28-year-old forward has scored 18 goals in the league, and has regularly hit the back of the net in CAF club competitions as well, with his stocks quickly rising as a result.

Offers are said to have come in from North Africa and Turkey, and so it remains to be seen if Chiefs will make a realistic offer.

“Kaizer Chiefs did make an official request on the possibility of opening negotiations, but have not made an official offer yet,” a KickOff source commented. “We have had teams that have proposed half a million US dollars and I’m pretty sure that we can get more for him if we hold out a bit.”
