Sono tips new Pirates gloveman to succeed under Riveiro

Legendary coach Jomo Sono has tipped new Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi to succeed at his new club under Jose Riveiro.

Former TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi is tipped to succeed at Orlando Pirates under Jose Riveiro by legendary coach Jomo Sono.

Buthelezi will look to challenge for the number one spot at Pirates as he will battle it out against Sipho Chaine, Richard Ofori, and Siyabonga Mpontshane.

Formerly on the books of Jomo Cosmos and coached by veteran keeper coach Avril Phali under Ezenkosi boss Sono, Buthelezi is backed to thrive at the Soweto giants.

NEW PIRATES KEEPER TIPPED TO SUCCEED UNDER RIVEIRO

The legendary coach and Cosmos owner, Sono has no doubt that Buthelezi’s career will flourish at Pirates under the Spanish manager, Riveiro.

The Black Prince revealed that they didn’t hesitate to sign Buthelezi when he came for a few training sessions under Phali back in 2018.

Together with the likes of Katlego Otladisa from Marumo Gallants, the 25-year-old keeper has been unveiled by the reigning MTN8 and Nedbank Cup champions.

 “Buthelezi will do well at Pirates because he comes from good hands at Cosmos, where he worked very well with Avril,” said Sono to Sowetan.

“In fact, Avril is the one who said we must sign him when he came to our training as an unknown young boy without any invite.

“What will also make him succeed at Pirates is that he’s coachable and has already gained enough experience at Galaxy and at Bafana Bafana.”

EMOTIONAL LEPASA RETURNS TO PIRATES

Remaining with the Buccaneers, Pirates have welcomed back striker Zakhele Lepasa who played for SuperSport United on loan from the Soweto giants.

The Soweto-born Bafana hitman, Lepasa has penned an emotional message to Matsatsantsa teammates as he looks to fight for his place under the Spaniard.

Highly rated by national team coach Hugo Broos, the 26-year-old Lepasa suggested he was reluctant to return to his parent club and appeared upset with the way he had been treated at the Sea Robbers in the past.
