Samir Nurkovic lifts lid on his Kaizer Chiefs departure

Newly-signed TS Galaxy striker Samir Nurkovic has broken silence on his shock departure from Kaizer Chiefs in June 2022.

Nurkovic was one of the key players for Chiefs during Ernst Middendorp’s tenure, but the club decided to let him go when his contract expired.

At the time, there were reports that Nurkovic had asked for a better salary package from Chiefs after it emerged that several teams were after his services.

Nurkovic made a huge impact in his first season with Chiefs but his second and third were a nightmare due to injuries.

And he has now admitted that injuries were the main reason he left Chiefs, and that the club had taken a different direction by introducing younger players.

Nurkovic left Chiefs having scored 21 goals in 78 appearances across all competitions during his three-year stint.

The Serbian centre-forward is now looking forward to life at TS Galaxy where he has reunited with former teammate at Chiefs Bernard Parker.

SAMIR NURKOVIC ADMITS INJURIES WERE CRUCIAL TO HIS KAIZER CHIEFS DEPARTURE

“The injuries were coming. I was playing, I was getting back but in such a big club they need an immediate impact. I understand,” said Nurkovic on Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified.

“At that time of the moment they had a different vision and then a lot of new young players came that’s all understandable.

“I just need to continue not dropping down. I just need to continue working hard, things in professional football are changing fast – one day you’re up, one day you’re down. I need to continue working hard,” added Nurkovic.
