Lorch first Pirates appearance of the season earns him MOTM

Lorch made his first appearance of the 2023/24 season and won the man of the match award following Pirates’ win over Cape Town Spurs.

Thembinkosi Lorch earned his first start for Orlando Pirates this season when his side defeated Cape Town Spurs 2-0 at the Orlando Stadium on Friday evening.

The 30-year-old winger made his first appearance of the season with a man-of-the-match performance to send the Sea Robbers into the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.

Pirates coach played Lorch alongside Evidence Makgopa and Kermit Erasmus upfront.

Riveiro said that the winger has shown good performance in training which earned him his first start.

“I think he’s in a good moment and his contribution is always very welcome to the team,” the Pirates coach told SuperSport TV.

“So I’m hoping to see a good match in general, everybody is motivated, understanding that this is like final and we want to perform in our best today,” he said as per iDiski Times.

Lorch played full 90 minutes on Friday and Riveiro said the star was fit and in good shape despite lack of game-time.

“Lorch is a player sometimes we don’t we are not conscious about how much he runs in the game, how many times he runs into space, and at the end of the game he played the bill a bit but you can see that he’s in a good space, he’s fit and he could manage to finish the game anyway.”
