Kaizer Chiefs to stick to a 4-2-3-1 under Nabi

If Nabi gets the head coach role, Chiefs won’t have to make any drastic formation changes. He favours a 4-2-3-1, which is how the Glamour Boys have been lining up under Arthur Zwane. With Amakhosi battling to score goals last season, though, the spotlight will be on any man tasked with playing the lone striker role. Who are the candidates, with the club seemingly having seen enough of Caleb Bimenyimana and Christian Saile?

Ashley Du Preez

The existing option at Naturena is 25-year-old former Stellies star Ashley Du Preez. He bagged six goals and five assists from 25 DStv Prem appearances last term, which isn’t a sensational return by any means, but it can be improved upon next term. His work ethic and willingness to run the channels might make him better suited to a wide role in attack, however.

Fiston Mayele

Should Nabi choose to solve the problem externally, Mayele is a man he knows all too well after the pair enjoyed treble success together with Yanga in back-to-back campaigns. It’s a no-brainer. Especially, considering that Chiefs’ pursuit of Ranga Chivaviro has run into a cul-de-sac.

Samir Nurković

“Kokota Piano”, as he is affectionately known, is much adored by Amakhosi faithful. Whether or not the top brass want to bring him back to Naturena is another matter entirely, but it’s a wild card option that would be greeted with glee. Right now, the 31-year-old marksman is training with Cape Town City.

So, who’s going to lead the line next term for the mighty Kaizer Chiefs and improve their woeful goal-scoring record? Let us know your ideas in the comments below, if you have any better suggestions, that is.
