South Africa will come to a standstill this afternoon when Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs meet in their MTN8 semi-final.

Today’s match serves as the second of two legs, with the opening leg finishing in a dramatic 1-1 draw.

The Brazilians will be looking to go one step further this season, after crashing out of the competition at the same stage last year.

As for the Glamour Boys, their first MT8 final since 2015 awaits however they’ll have to be at their very best if they want to beat Rhulani Mokwena’s side this afternoon.

Kaizer Chiefs vs MTN8: A painful journey

The last time Kaizer Chiefs won the MTN8 title was all the way back in 2014. Since then it’s been pain, and more pain!

The Glamour Boys last played in an MTN8 final in 2015, where they went down against Ajax Cape Town.

As far as semi-final eliminations are concerned, Chiefs have failed to make it beyond the last four on three occasions in the last decade.

Ntseki looking at the positives

The most important thing is for us to understand the three types of results. We played this game looking to have a win and when you don’t win the game, yes you are disappointed, but you also look at the positives,” the Kaizer Chiefs coach said as quoted by TimesLive.

“The positives are that we had very good ball possession, we had very good tactical movements going forward in shifting play and changing points of attack.

“And it’s hard work for the players to get into those goalscoring positions. It’s for them to understand our approach in attack.”

Kaizer Chiefs are improving – Rhulani

“It’s going to be very difficult. Contrary to what the results may suggest. We are playing against a very good side, a very improved Kaizer Chiefs team.” – Rhulani Mokwena said as quoted by IOL.

“We want to try to win every match at Mamelodi Sundowns. Regardless of whatever advantage or disadvantage we may have. If the score had stayed at 1-0 and we had not found the equaliser, the attitude would still be.”
