Forgotten Bafana Bafana maestro ready to sign for Kaizer Chiefs

Thulani Serero may be 33 years old, but he’s still got plenty of value to add. Here’s why Kaizer Chiefs should strongly consider bringing him back to the PSL.

Thulani Serero might have already showed us his peak years, but that doesn’t mean Kaizer Chiefs shouldn’t be having a serious look at him. Could the former Bafana Bafana midfielde maestro be tempted by a PSL return?

ICYMI: How Kaizer Chiefs could line up under Nasreddine Nabi

ICYMI: Five things you must know about Nabi

Thulani Serero spent eight years on the European club scene and the entirety of it was in the Netherlands. It it all began with Ajax Amsterdam in 2011 after a €2.5m move from partner club Ajax Cape Town. He spent six years with the Dutch giants, notching 121 appearances for the club including 11 outings in the Champions League. His pedigree is beyond doubt. He’d add steel, know-how, influence and authority to proceedings at the base of that Amakhosi midfield. Maybe the Glamour Boys would even start to control matches and play them at their own pace. It would also be a statement of intent.

Obviously Chiefs have plenty other options on the market, but if they want a commanding central midfielder with bags of experience, Serero is a great option. The parallels between Thulani Serero and Andile Jali are obvious; both have won plenty of accolades in their career, and the pair were born just a day apart in April 1990.

AJ15 heading back to Pirates?

Jali seems to be at the tail-end of his PSL career and somewhat distracted although there’s big talk he might be rejoining Orlando Pirates. Talk about a lifeline.

Serero, meanwhile, should be revitalised and excited for a new challenge back in South Africa. What better task than to steer Kaizer Chiefs back to the pinnacle of the DStv Premiership? Serero vs Jali could be the midfield battle that nobody expected but we all deserve.

Will Serero’s head be turned by an offer from Saudi Arabia? If so, the Chiefs hierarchy better act quick.
