Match Preview: SuperSport United vs Golden Arrows

Last time out SuperSport United failed to get onto the scoresheet, coming away from their clash with Cape Town City with a point following a goalless draw on the opening weekend.

Golden Arrows claimed bragging rights in a KZN derby along with three points after they beat Maritzburg United 2-1 over the weekend.

The two sides were evenly matched when they met in the MTN 8 quarterfinals, which went to penalties. Arrows advanced but SuperSport have had time to plot their revenge.

Arrows head coach Lehlohonolo Seema was impressed with his new team’s effort in their 2-1 derby win.

“What can you say, if the guys are willing to ‘die’ like that in the field of play then we can only say to them ‘congratulations’,” said Seema.

“Credit must go to the players, they played well. We are happy with the three points. We are working hard. We are making progress.”

SuperSport Skipper Ronwen Williams said the team were determined to improve on their poor home form from last season.

“We are feeling good,” Williams said ahead of the match.

“We want to start on a positive note at home. Last season we did quite well at home and we want to keep that run going. Arrows are not an easy team to play against but we played them a few weeks ago [in the MTN8] and we know what they are about. We will go out there and fight.”

Arrows are unbeaten in their last six meetings with SuperSport United, having done the league double over them last term.

The match kicks off at 15:00 (SAST) team sheets will be published roughly an hour before the scheduled start.
