According to interesting reports that have now emerged this week, Ghanaian midfielder Edmund Arko-Mensah – who is currently on the books of Honka FC in Finland – could be a player planted firmly on Pirates’ radar. According to Transfermarkt, his player value is around R3.3-million.

“Pirates are understood to be doing everything in their power to secure the services of Arko-Mensah whether on loan or a permanent deal. The club however prefers it to be on a permanent deal,” said a report on Ghanaweb.com.

“Their scouts have seen the player and were impressed and have recommended that the club move quickly to secure him.”

Recently, new Pirates Jose Riveiro had now suggested the club is ready for the new season, and any further signings seem to have been deemed unnecessary.

“We are concentrating on the players that we already have and we are not thinking so much about any other possibilities, we have enough [players],” Riveiro told journalists, as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“I am not controlling the market. We have very strong technical staff, together with the coaching staff we try to get the best we can, obviously we have a big squad, but it is something that we are gonna need during the season, so it doesn’t mean that nobody else will come. You never know but the main part of my job is to focus on what we have,” he added.

PIRATES WILL SOON BE BACK IN ACTION

A goal in either half ensured a share of the spoils at Danie Craven Stadium, where Orlando Pirates played to a 1-1 draw away to Stellenbosch in their DStv Premiership fixture on Wednesday night.

A total of four changes from the team that lined up for the season opener were made by Coach Jose Riveiro, who brought in Tebogo Tlolane and Bandile Shandu – both unused subs at Orlando Stadium over the weekend – while Olisa Ndah and Ben Motshwari were handed starts after coming on from the bench in that fixture.

The Buccaneers will next take on Chippa United on Sunday.
