PSL goal of the season

Hlompho Kekana of Mamelodi Sundowns celebrates his goal.

Following Tuesday night’s PSL action, Wednesday produced some engrossing football as the rest of the teams in the top flight took center stage.

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns headlined the night’s action when they met at Orlando stadium in a match that ended 3-1 in favour of the visitors. This was courtesy of an early two goal advantage handed too them by captain, Hlompho Kekana.

Kekana opened the scoring in the 3rd minute rather fortuitously as Abubaker Mobara failed to clear the ball – his shot ricocheting off the boot of the Sundowns skipper into an unattended net. He the followed it up just ten minutes later with a trademark long-range wonderstrike when he spotted Pirates keeper, Wayne Sandilands way out of his line.

Mark van Heerden got his side back in the game eight minutes before the break via an expertly taken free-kick. This inspired a spirited fightback from Orlando Pirates but a string of missed chances cost them dearly.

Second half substitute, Anthony Laffor put the game way beyond the home side’s reach in injury time with his late strike.

Elsewhere in Joburg, two late goals from Samuel Julies gave Chippa United an important away victory against Bidvest Wits as it finished 2-0 to the visitors at Bidvest stadium.

Cape Town City FC also benefited from a late goal of their own when Taariq Fielies netted in the 85th minute to give his side a much-needed 1-0 win at Athlone stadium. Their city rivals Ajax Cape town were on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline as Platinum Stars registered their first league win of the season at Royal Bafokeng stadium.

After going to the break at 1-all, no further goals were scored between AmaZulu and Baroka as they played to a stalemate at the King Zwelithini stadium.
