Zungu who was linked to Chiefs during the off-season, has started getting playing momentum at Amiens.

Zungu started slow this season

Zungu had endured a torrid time earlier in the season, having not been able to take to the field for Amiens. The lanky midfielder returned to the French club late from pre-season, which set him behind the others. He was also obliged to quarantine as per Covid-19 regulations.

That, however, was not the only reason Zungu was isolated, with the player also believed to have been trying to force a move away from Amiens, who are now campaigning in their second season in French Ligue 2, after being relegated from the country’s topflight.

Looked to be reintegrated by Amiens

However, in late September pictures began to emerge of Zungu being with his teammates, in what seemed to signify that he was being reintegrated back into the club’s first team fold. “Ben 10” as he is affectionally known, also spent time away from Amiens last season, with a loan spell at Scotland giants Rangers.

Although that particular loan spell did not quite bare the fruits that Zungu would’ve wanted on a personal level in terms of game time, it did however, yield a league title for the player and the first Rangers had won in 10 years. The former Mamelodi Sundowns player would’ve also had the honour and privilege of being coached by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard who played in the same position with such aplomb.

Positional switch

Now speaking of position, known to be a deep-lying playmaker, Zungu was seen playing as a centre back for Amiens in their French Ligue 2 fixture against Nimes on Saturday.  Not only was he thrust into an unorthodox position, Zungu went on to excel, playing the full 90 minutes and helping to keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory. Could this be where he will be deployed for the rest of the season? Or could it even start an evolution for the player? Watch the space!
