When the news of Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe running for the CAF presidency surfaced, not many believed he would be successful in his bid.

That’s because Motsepe is seen as a more reserved club owner with less interest in football but that opinion has been thrown out the window.

Motsepe was elected the new CAF president on Friday, taking over from Ahmad Ahmad whose three-year tenure promised a lot but delivered very little.

The 56-year-old was congratulated across the continent – from high-profile individuals, clubs to football federations.

Here is how football fans, journalists and football clubs reacted to the news.

Motsepe will now vacate his position as president of Mamelodi Sundowns with his elder son Tlhopie taking charge of the club.

Dr Rejoice Simelane, who is currently one of the directors at Sundowns is set to serve as the club’s vice-president.
