Pirates striker on Riveiro’s massive influence in Mzansi

Seasoned Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus has praised coach Jose Riveiro’s influence for Mzansi football.

After guiding Orlando Pirates to their third trophy in his second season, coach Jose Riveiro is praised for his influence in Mzansi by striker Kermit Erasmus.

Erasmus was key for Pirates as they beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final last weekend and he has since credited Riveiro for his influence.

Pirates successfully defended their MTN8 title as they claimed a 3-1 on penalties at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

PIRATES STRIKER ON RIVEIRO’S INFLUENCE AT PIRATES

The former Sundowns and Cape Town City striker, Erasmus believes the Spaniard is a big influence on South African football and at Pirates.

“What I can say about the coach is that he’s got a lot of patience. He’s very motivated, he’s passionate about this club, this game and I think in the ways that he’s trying to coach us, suites us as South African players,” Erasmus said per SABC.

“He’s always open to opinions of what we think as players and he also tries to understand different players and how they behave in certain situations. What drives them or what gets their head down if he’s shouting too much.”

Despite being labelled at DStv Premiership title challengers last season, Pirates failed to push Sundowns who retained the league trophy.

The Sea Robbers would only manage a second finish to qualify for the CAF Champions League.

However, they failed to reach the group stages as they were dumped by Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy a few weeks ago.

ERASMUS PRAISES THE SPANISH COACH AT PIRATES

In addition, the Bafana Bafana hitman added that Riveiro has invested a lot of time in understanding the team dynamics at Mayfair.

“He’s trying to figure out how to treat every player in the way that’s comfortable for them as individuals,” he added.

“I think because of that the unity of the team has been really good and I think he’s been great for us as a coach.”
