Benni McCarthy is a highly decorated man

Manchester United first-team coach Benni McCarthy is South African football royalty. He’s achieved some great things both as a player, head coach and now in his new specialist role at Old Trafford.

  • All-time leading scorer for Bafana Bafana with 31 goals from 80 caps.
  • Until 2023 when Lyle Foster made the switch to Burnley, Benni was the most expensive South African footballer of all time. He moved from Ajax to Celta Vigo for €6m in 1999.
  • Benni Scored 18 goals in 36 Premier League appearances in the 2006-07 season.

Things were going swimmingly for the Red Devils under Erik Ten Hag until a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Liverpool. Benni will be keen to go deep in the FA Cup and Europa League this season, and then who knows? Perhaps a role as a first-team head coach in Portugal, Spain or The Netherlands beckons.

It’s time for Benni to be the main man at a prominent European club. He’s earned it.
