Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit back at Frank Lampard after the Chelsea boss warned Liverpool’s coaching staff not to get ‘arrogant’ after their Premier League title triumph.

Lampard and Klopp were caught in a heated exchange of words during Liverpool’s 5-3 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night and the two managers have continued their war of words following the final whistle.

Lampard left unimpressed with Klopp’s bench

Frank Lampard warned Liverpool’s technical team not to get “too arrogant” after Chelsea’s 5-3 Premier League loss at Anfield on Wednesday.

“On the bench, I’ve got no problem with Jurgen Klopp, he’s managed his team and it’s fantastic.” – Lampard told SkySports.

“Some of the bench, it’s a fine line between when you’re winning and they’ve won the league, fair play to Liverpool Football Club, but also don’t get too arrogant with it. In match play you get emotional and that was it.”

Klopp hits back

The Liverpool manager did not take kindly to Lampard’s ‘arrogant’ accusation claiming the Chelsea legend still has a lot to learn in the managerial side of football.

“You cannot hit me and my bench with something like that because we are not arrogant.” Klopp told a virtual press conference.

“Frank was obviously in a really competitive mood and I respect that a lot. From my point of view in this sort of situation you can say pretty much what you want. For me, after the game it is completely over.

“Speaking afterwards about it like this, that’s not okay, Frank has to learn this and he has a lot of time to learn as he is a young coach but that is what he has to learn. During the game, the words used were no problem at all but after final whistle? No.”

Chelsea host Wolves on Sunday in their final Premier League fixture of the season. Chelsea need a victory to secure their spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League with Leicester City breathing down their necks.

Liverpool travel to Newcastle on Sunday in a dead-rubber clash with Liverpool having already secured the title and Newcastle securing their status in the English top flight for next season.
