The English Premier League continues its charge towards the sharp end this weekend, with a blockbuster Manchester Derby the highlight on Sunday.

Manchester City make the short hop from the east of the city to Old Trafford, where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s fifth-placed United lie in wait.

A mammoth 15 points separate City in second place from their neighbours but the battle is firmly on for European qualification with a continental ban looming over Pep Guardiola’s side.

Victory over Leicester a fortnight ago, plus last weekend’s EFL Cup win at Wembley, will have lightened the mood a little for the reigning champions, who look set for the runners-up spot this time around.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in four and drew 1-1 at Everton last Sunday, leaving them three points shy of Chelsea in fourth place.

Runaway leaders Liverpool saw their mammoth unbeaten run bite the dust in dramatic fashion last weekend at the hands of Watford, who somehow pulled off a 3-0 victory at Vicarage Road.

Jurgen Klopp, ominously, believes his side will now play with more freedom, with ailing Bournemouth the first to face the backlash in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday at Anfield.

There’s another derby to be had on Saturday when Arsenal host London rivals West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are unbeaten in seven Premier League fixtures and have won their last two, despite still loitering in tenth place in the standings.

The Hammers edged out of the relegation zone last Saturday by virtue of a sneaky win over Southampton at the London Stadium.

Chelsea will set out to bolster their Champions League credentials on Sunday with Everton the tricky opposition at Stamford bridge.

The Blues stuttered to a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth last Saturday, a day before the Toffees held Manchester United with boss Carlo Ancelotti the first coach to be red-carded ahead of his return to west London.

Aston Villa can put their feet up until Monday night following their EFL Cup final defeat, before making the short trip across the Midlands to Leicester, who are in a rotten run of four winless games in the Premier League.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Wolves could rise as high as fourth if they can see off the challenge of struggling Brighton at Molineux.

They take on the Seagulls a week after pinching an impressive 3-2 win at European rivals Tottenham, who will fall below in-form Burnley in the table if they are beaten at Turf Moor in the Saturday evening kick off.

Sheffield United are also in the mix for a Europa League spot, going into the weekend unbeaten in their last three.

The Blades host bottom club Norwich, who head to Bramall Lane off the back of their first win in five over Leicester.

Newcastle make the long trip to Southampton on Saturday with neither side out of the relegation woods just yet.

The pair sit 13th and 14th in the EPL table, seven and five points above the drop zone respectively.

Watford will be itching to back up their Liverpool heroics, meanwhile, when they head across the capital to play Crystal Palace, whose picture looks much brighter following back-to-back victories.
