Cavin Johnson backs Kaizer Chiefs keeper Bruce Bvuma to keep his place after producing a clean sheet in their win over Moroka Swallows last weekend.

Bvuma returned to the goal posts on Sunday afternoon when they visited Swallows in the Soweto derby – Chiefs claimed a 1-0 win at Dobsonville Stadium.

The Bafana Bafana keeper is now backed by Johnson to keep doing well and grab his chance as they look to climb up the DStv Premiership log table.

The Chiefs’ gloveman returned to the position after 15 months since he started a game for Amakhosi.

The 28-year-old former Chiefs development keeper grabbed his chance with both hands and delivered a clean sheet in their hard-fought win.

Already preparing to face Polokwane City on December 09, Bvuma will look to keep another clean sheet and convince Johnson that the number one spot belongs to him.

Besides keeping a clean sheet, Bvuma is also credited for commanding a new-look centre-back pairing of Given Msimango and Edmilson Dove.

“Eight games, wow, look it’s not about Bruce, it’s about the team in front of him – and yes we come away with no goals conceded but I think the whole team has to be congratulated,” Johnson said per iDiski Times.

“Yes he got a chance, he has to make sure he keeps it, [make sure] his head doesn’t go to his body and he’s able to maintain because I can say the same thing about Happy Mashiane.”

CHIEFS’ JOHNSON PRAISES BVUMA, NGCOBO AND RADEBE

Additionally, the seasoned coach also heaped praise on some of his troops such as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Sabelo Radebe.

“I can say the same thing about Pony [Nkosingiphile Ngcobo], I can say the same thing about Bibo [Sabelo Radebe], they are young players,” adds the coach.

“I can say the same thing about Shabba [Mduduzi Shabalala], on the bench, in the pitch, doesn’t matter if you are part of the 20 and it’s a credit to all of them.”

After the victory, Chiefs now sit at number six with 17 points from 13 league matches.
