Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has questioned the state of the pitch his team is set to play on against Rwanda.

The South African national football team play Rwanda in Butare in their second 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

“It was not an easy trip, like always in Africa,” Broos was quoted on TimesLive.

“And, yes, I’m wondering why we have to play here in Butare.

Broos not happy with pitch

“Second, when I saw the footage of Rwanda’s games against Zimbabwe and also in their Afcon qualifiers, I saw a very bad pitch,” said Broos.

Broos also raised an eyebrow on the synthetic pitch, saying it was in poor condition.

“There’s nothing wrong with a synthetic pitch — we played on one in Liberia that was fantastic,” he said.

“That was a new generation synthetic pitch. But here it’s a synthetic pitch that is maybe 20 or 25 years old, very bad condition. It’s like you play on the street.

“It’s hard, there are many [types of] bounces of the ball. So it’s very difficult to play good football and it will be a game of fighting football tomorrow,” Broos added.
