The Springboks will face the All Blacks at Twickenham in a blockbuster pre-Rugby World Cup clash next year, according to reports.

British newspaper Daily Mail has claimed that England will also be involved in a double-header at the historic venue against an as-yet unnamed opponent.

Whether the fixture between the Springboks and their Kiwi rivals will constitute part of an abbreviated Rugby Championship remains to be seen.

Historically in World Cup years the Rugby Championship (and previously the Tri-Nations) has taken on a shortened format of just one (rather than two) matches between each country.

The All Blacks have in the past played at several neutral venues, including Tokyo and Chicago, while the Springboks played Wales in a once-off Test in Washington DC in 2018.

Springboks will face All Backs twice in SA this year

Before that, however, the Springboks will host the All Blacks in back-to-back Rugby Championship Tests this year at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit (6 August) and at Ellis Park in Johannesburg (13 August).
