SA Rugby has issued a statement in the wake of the news that Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies had tested positive for a banned substance and faces a lengthy suspension.

CONTROVERSY FOLLOWS ELTON JANTJIES EVERYWHERE HE GOES

Last year was a nightmare for Elton Jantjies both on and off the field, with the 32-year-old having admitted to an affair with Springbok dietician Zeenat Simjee that has left his career and reputation in disarray.

It came after another off-field controversy that revolved around allegations of an altercation and disruptive behaviour on board a flight back to South Africa.

He has also battled to find any consistency on the rugby pitch, and missed out on the Springboks‘ World Cup squad earlier this month.

Jantjies now faces potential suspension after admitting to testing positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol, which is a fat-burning and asthma medication that also enhances stamina.

SA RUGBY REACTS TO LATEST JANTJIES SAGA 

The national rugby governing body, SA Rugby issued a statement on Saturday afternoon, confirming that they’ve been informed about the findings by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS).

SA Rugby knowledges that a regulated process in now underway and would thus mot make any further comment on the matter.

“SA Rugby has noted the statement issued on behalf of Elton Jantjies and confirms it was advised of the adverse finding. A regulated process is now in train which we are bound to respect and allow to run its course without further comment or speculation.”
