The Blitzboks have been drawn in Pool A for the tournament taking place at the Cape Town Stadium from 9-11 December.

They will face France, Fiji and Canada in their pool matches.

France are ranked third after what was the second of 11 rounds in the 2022/23 World Rugby Sevens Series, while Fiji are in fifth spot.

Canada are 12th.

Pool B will see Ireland, Samoa, Uruguay and Japan face off, while New Zealand, Argentina, Kenya and Spain have been drawn in Pool C.

The Cape Town Sevens was last played in 2019 with Covid-19 challenges forcing the 2020 and 2021 editions to be cancelled.

New Zealand beat the Blitzboks 7-5 in that 2019 Cup final.

Meanwhile, as reported by The South African website, the Blitzboks moved to the top of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series log after emerging victorious at the Dubai Sevens on Saturday – for a 10th time.
