BREAKING: Australia rugby star arrested for alleged sexual assault

Australia rugby star Kurtley Beale has reportedly been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault at a hotel late last year.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Beale was stopped by police on Friday and taken to Australia’s Waverley Police Station. The 34-year-old has been detained after a 28-year-old woman made a report to police, alleging she had been sexually assaulted at a Bondi Beach hotel on December 17, 2022.

An investigation was undertaken, and police on Friday confirmed an arrest was made.

Beale has made as many as 95 Test appearances for Australia, having debuted in 2009. Despite heading into the twilight of his career, Beale was expected to compete for a place in the Wallabies’ World Cup squad this year.

Rugby Australia have since issued a statement.

“Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs and Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) are aware of the situation involving Kurtley Beale. As this is a police matter, and we understand there has been no charge made, we will be making no further comment at this time.”

Beale has been a key member of the Australia team for the better part of the last 15 years

Kurtley was picked for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, in which the Wallabies disappointingly bowed out at the quarter-final stage against England. The long-serving utility back then signed with Racing92 in the French Top14, but this year was set to return to the Waratahs.

On a personal note, he became a father in October last year.
