Mourinho proves he’s ‘The Special One’ after reaching another final

Jose Mourinho produced a masterclass as Roma earned a 0-0 draw at Bayer Leverkusen in their Europa League semi-final return leg on Thursday.

Roma won 1-0 on aggregate to reach the final of the Europa.

The Rome side have now reached back-to-back European finals under Mourinho following last season’s Europa Conference League title.

In his post-match interview with DAZN, Mourinho paid special consideration to his players and the sacrifice they displayed in a hard fought battle with Bayer Leverkusen.

“This is the way my team is, a matter of small details,” remarked the Special One. “If Smalling isn’t on the bench maybe we don’t win tonight.”

“Losing Celik was tough. Same with Spinazzola,” Mourinho added. “This result is possible thanks to our ability to stick to tactics, direct the game in our favour and cover our weaknesses.”

“I don’t know if I can ask anything more from the fans, but these boys deserve something special on Monday when we will depart Trigoria,” said Mourinho.

Roma will face Sevilla in the final

“My concern is not to become part of Roma’s history, but to help the boys grow as players and help the Romanisti who have helped me from day one. I want to give joy to these people like the joy of going to a European final,” Mourinho said.

Jose Mourinho was emotional following Roma’s progression to the Europa League final.

He praised the players for their sacrifice.

“Bove was incredible. He played as fullback. Same goes for Smalling who managed to play despite still being injured,” said Mourninho. “These guys are incredible, they amaze me.”
