Contrary to popular belief, the likes of Khama Billiat and Willard Katsande are not the first names on the Kaizer Chiefs team sheet.

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Ernst Middendorp has recently come under fire for the make-up of his starting XI, but has stated that no player in his camp is guaranteed a place in the starting line-up.

The German tactician has, in recent weeks, fielded teams missings some big-name players, such as Zimbabwean international, Khama Billiat, who was benched in the 3-2 win over AmaZulu, as well as his compatriot, Willard Katsande, who came on in the second half of the Soweto Derby draw against Orlando Pirates.

While the duo has previously been believed to be among the first names on an Amakhosi team sheet littered with inexperienced players, Middendorp has vowed to stick with his rotation policy.

“Probably next week it might be Leonardo Castro on the bench‚” he is quoted on TimesLive.

“What I want to make sure about is that. Where is it written that a player who is in the team has a guarantee to start? I don’t think so.

“Definitely not. And I think you saw the first half against Pirates‚ where there were three tactical changes in the first half on the other side.

“It looks like we did something right without Katsande. We did something right against AmaZulu without Khama Billiat.

“And I think let’s really understand this. There is no guarantee for anybody‚ there is no guarantee for this moment.

The German added that only performance determines whether a player makes the starting team or not.

“I say always that all the players are equal, but some players are more equal,” Middendorp added.

“And at this moment the players who are equal are the decision of the technical team during the week preparing for a game.

Kaizer Chiefs next travel to Port Elizabeth for a clash against second-division outfit, The Magic in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday afternoon, before resuming their league campaign against Polokwane City next Saturday.
