Cycle for Smiles: A world-class festival of cycling.

Team of cyclists to pedal 100

The cyclists will take part in Prudential Ride London on Sunday 30th July. They will cycle on closed roads through the capital and into the stunning Surrey Countryside.

The iconic route was made famous by the world’s best cyclists in the London 2012 Olympics and includes the leg-testing climbs up Box Hill and Leith Hill. With over 20,000 cyclists taking part and spectators lining the streets it promises to be an exciting event for all involved.

The Starfish team are raising funds to provide vital healthcare and education services to vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty in South Africa.

Each cyclist is aiming to raise £500 which can enable 90 children to receive a head-to-toe check-up and follow care from the nurse at the Starfish Wellness Wagon.

The Starfish Wellness Wagon is a mobile testing clinic providing essential healthcare to children in rural communities in South Africa. The nurse tests children for malnutrition, TB and HIV, checks immunisations and growth indicators, and provides treatment and follow-up visits to monitor the children’s progress.

Visits from the Starfish Wellness Wagon mean that children no longer have to travel long distances to receive health care, instead they are able to stay in school and are given the best chance to succeed.

“The Wellness Wagon now has been reaching the Primary schools and the Early Childhood Development centres in the areas that are very far from any clinic. It is always asked to come again because of its importance and the difference that it is making.”

If you would like to take part in Prudential Ride London–Surrey 100, there is still time to join the Starfish team. Email or call 0207 597 3797 before Monday 22nd May to secure your place and help transform the lives of vulnerable children in South Africa.
