Cape Town City is the only remaining side from the Mother City in the top flight, and they will be looking to represent well when they take on Supersport United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

The Citizens finished fifth in their second season in the PSL, two spots below what they managed to achieve in their debut campaign and will be hoping to improve their standing this time around.

Team news

With his rookie season well and out of the way, coach Benni McCarthy will relish the start of the new season and see it as an opportunity to prove what he can do, with the club no doubt aiming to collect some silverware.

He has a few additions to his charges to help him achieve that, including highly-rated Bafana youngster Gift Links, who joined on a reported club record fee from Egyptian outfit Pyramids, as well as Riyaad Norodien who made the move from Orlando Pirates back to the Mother City, having started his career out with the relegated Ajax Cape Town.

Cape Town City’s opponents, Supersport United will be looking for a much-improved campaign, having narrowly escaped relegation last season to end up in the top half of the table, aided by extra points which came as a result of the sanction handed out to the Urban Warriors.

Matsatsantsa A Pitori have promoted long-time assistant coach Kaitano Tembo to the helm, as he took over the reins from Eric Tinkler, who parted ways with the club earlier this year.

The Tshwane outfit has also added a few names in their ranks, which include former Bafana captain, who returns to the club after a stint at Bidvest Wits and his teammate at The Students, James Keene, while they bid farewell to Tefu Mashamaite and Kingston Nkhatha.

Cape Town City vs Supersport United: Head to head

Both clashes between these two sides last season failed to produce a winner as they held one another to a one-all draw in Pretoria before things ended goalless in Cape Town.

In their four league encounters since Cape Town City’s introduction into the big time, only one match has produced a winner, and that was Supersport United, who ran off 4-2 victors at home towards the end of the 2016/17 season.

Kick off: 18:00 (SAST)

TV and live stream: The match will be broadcast live on Supersport 4 (SS4).
