Tshepo ‘Howza’ Mosese exits ‘Scandal!’ to revive his kwaito roots

Actor, TV presenter and musician Tshepo ‘Howza’ Mosese shocked Mzansi this week by announcing his departure from’s popular soapie ‘Scandal!’

Mosese played the role of top cop Lerumo Chabedi on the’s most watched soapie for nearly a decade, having joined Scandal! in 2013 as a bodyguard to one of the lead characters at the time.  

Speaking on his departure after eight years with the show to The Sowetan, he said:

“It wasn’t an easy decision to make but it feels like the Right time for me to embark on new challenges and push myself out of my comfort zone. I have enjoyed playing this character but I am ready to cut my teeth playing different characters again. Being on a soapie for an extended period of time doesn’t always allow one the freedom to work on other projects and that is what I want to do.”

Howza keen to revive his kwaito roots

Popularly known as Howza, the star is also a well-known recording artist, previously with kwaito group Blackjack and Mosese told The Sowetan that he is keen to revive his music career.

In 2007, he released his solo album, titled Cut to the Chase, which featured hit singles such as Styla sa Mahala and Okapi.

Fond memories of ‘onscreen father’ Jerry Mofokeng

He also posted a heartfelt message to his on-screen father Jerry Mofokeng who plays the role of Neo Mokgethi on his Instagram account a few months ago by posting a picture of himself and Mofokeng with the caption: “My father from another grandmother”… @dr_jerry_official is one of the greatest human beings I’ve come to know. Forever dropping mind blowing jewels of knowledge whenever we chat. #mydadiscoolerthanyours.”

Acting career and personal life

Mosese has also appeared on Generations and Backstage before joining Scandal!; hosted SABC1’s youth magazine show Big Up; All You Need is Love in 2012 and featured on Bar One Manhunt.

Mosese has been married to the Safta-award-winning actress Salamina Mosese for more than 12 years and the couple has a 10-year-old daughter. At the end of last year, the couple surprised fans when they announced the arrival of their second baby through a Bona Magazine cover story.
