The Mzansi Magic telenovela Gomora, which is DStv’s most-watched show will wrap up shooting in July and air its last episode in October 2023.

“Leaving was not my decision. The show is wrapping up; the broadcaster decided to wrap up the show. We don’t know why; Gomora has been number one on the charts, it has been number one since the beginning. My character and other characters will be cut before the show ends, that is how they wrote the script,” says Chiume.

Award-winning actress Sannah Mchunu, who plays fan-favourite character Zodwa, told City Press that she visited taverns in Alexandra to observe the behaviour of patrons.

“My character wasn’t supposed to be there for a long time, she was meant to make people understand that Teddy lived with Gladys [played by Thembi Seete] because his mother was an irresponsible drunkard.

Mchunu adds that she wanted to make an impact and stay longer by going to Alex to check how ‘Zodwas’ live on a daily basis so that she could add her own spice to the script, and that’s where she got Zodwa’s broken English.
