Since entering the music industry in 2014, Cassper Nyovest has cemented himself as one of the most successful rappers in the country. Although the 31-year-old rapper has worked with rising artists before, he admitted that introducing new talent is difficult because there are “so many things to consider”.

In a Twitter Space on Saturday 8 January, Cassper Nyovest engaged with his fans on the ins and outs of the music industry. The successful rapper went on to explain that “it’s not easy” to introduce new artists to the industry. “People and personalities are different,” he added.

“You say ‘let me put you on’… You get here, the guy starts doing drugs. Now you brought him here, what then?”

“It’s not as easy to put people on. You bring the guy here, he has fun… One time he calls girls over, you wake up the next morning this guy is being accused of rape. Your name is there.”

“There’s so many things you have to consider when you think about associating people to your name. I think artists always trying to reach out and help other kids is a great idea, but it’s not easy especially in the time that we live in because you have so many things that you have to consider.”

Reacting to Cassper’s words, some tweeps were not impressed with the rapper’s explanation. One tweep wrote: “He doesn’t believe in putting people on and that is okay, but all I heard was excuses.”

“Thank God we have Madumane to introduce new kids in the industry, this is so disappointing from someone influential like Cass.”

“He must just say he doesn’t want to because his reasoning is lame. Why only focus on the negatives.”

Cassper Nyovest founded his record label, Family Tree Records in 2014. At the time, the Siyathandana hitmaker had signed rappers Tshego and Nadia Nakai. After releasing a few singles, Cassper confirmed Tshego’s exit from the label in 2019, saying he left “almost a year ago”.

Nadia Nakai announced her departure from Family Tree Records in 2021. She broke the news to Cassper saying she needed to “do her own thing”. Nadia released two albums under Family Tree Records.
