Welkom police arrest man for murder in Meloding

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said members acted on information about a murder that took place on Saturday.

Welkom police have arrested a man for murder and a security guard for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

MURDER IN ALBANY SECTION, MELODING

 The Welkom public order police members have arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with a murder in Meloding.

A security guard who was allegedly in possession of the murder weapon has also been arrested. He was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Tuesday.

MPUMALANGA POLICE SPOKESPERSON WEIGHS IN

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said members acted on information about a murder that took place on Saturday, as reported by IOL.

“The members proceeded to the identified house in Albany section, where a 34-year-old male suspect was arrested for murder,” Thakeng said.

Following the investigation, they received information that led the members to another house where a 43-year-old security guard was questioned.

FIREARM USED FROM WORKPLACE

It is confirmed that the firearm that was used in the crime was in the guard room at his workplace.

“Members then rushed to the guard room at Virginia Magistrate’s Court, where they found a pistol and 34 rounds of ammunition inside a locker.”

Thakeng added that the suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He confirmed that both suspects would soon be appearing in the Virginia Magistrate’s Court.

OTHER ARRESTS THE PAST WEEK

As previously reported by The South African, provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrest of the suspect who was responsible for the murder of 77-year-old, Rose Mabasa.

He was also responsible for the the attempted murder of her 32-year-old daughter in an incident that occurred on 21 January 2023 at around 01:00 in Mashau Bodwe village outside Louis Trichardt.
