Zolani Toyana, 23, from Site C, Cape Town was reportedly stabbed to death by three girls over a broken bottle of liquor on Saturday, 11 February.

According to City Press, Toyana went to a tavern with five girls. Two of them went home and the other three stayed.

TOYANA PROMISED TO BUY THE GIRLS ALCOHOL

Toyana allegedly promised to buy the three girls alcohol.

However, while he was out of sight, one of the girls said she wanted to go to her boyfriend’s place. They took the alcohol and left without telling him.

Noticing that the girls left the tavern with alcohol, Toyana went after them.

THE DECEASED ALLEGEDLY WANTED TO LEAVE WITH ONE OF THE GIRLS

“Apparently, he wanted to leave with one of the girls, but they refused. That’s when he took the bottle of alcohol, claiming that he had bought it, and he broke it. One of the girls was heard saying he was disrespecting them and they allegedly stabbed him in the neck and stomach with the bottleneck. They then pelted him with stones,” the report quoted Toyana’s friend as saying.

Toyana was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.

RESIDENTS MARCH TO POLICE STATION OVER LACK OF RESPONSE

IOL reported that residents and Toyana’s friends marched to Lingalethu police station on Tuesday, 14 February to demand the arrest of the alleged killers.

“It can’t be that three days after the incident, no one has been arrested. Zolani must get the justice he deserves and we want the case to be prioritised,” said a family member Naledi Nofemele as quoted by the report.

This is not the first time such an incident occurs in Zolani’s family. His elder brother was stabbed to death by nine men in 2019 and they are still roaming the streets.
