The City of Cape Town said areas near the Central Business District and Atlantic Seaboard will experience water supply disruptions late on Thursday, 23 December until the early hours of Christmas Eve.

CAPE TOWN WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION

The Cape Town Water and Sanitation Department said it intends to finalise the reinstatement of the water supply pipeline from the Kloof Nek Reservoir.

A falling tree damaged the pipeline in September 2021 and residents have been supplied via alternative lines while the repairs were carried out.

The reconnection of the now-repaired line will result in the disruption of the water supply to affected areas from 22:00 on Thursday until 4:00 on Friday.

“Shutting down the water supply to the Bo-Kaap, Camps Bay, Clifton, Fresnaye and Tamboerskloof areas is necessary to allow the maintenance crews to do the coupling of the newly-repaired pipeline safely.

“Careful consideration has been given to the work to ensure that it is done at a time that is least disruptive to our consumers,” said Cape Town MayCo Member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien.

Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to store clean water for domestic use ahead of the water supply disruption. It is also best to keep taps closed to prevent any water loss or damage when the restoration is complete.

“A water tanker will be stationed in the parking area opposite Freedom Court in Astana Street in the Bo-Kaap to provide water for domestic purposes where required,” said Badroodien.
