CAPE TOWN POLICE OFFICERS APPEAR IN COURT

Members of the police anti-corruption unit arrested a pair of Sergeants, Lundi Meti, 38, and Moenieb Rhoda, 47, on Wednesday after they allegedly tried to extort members of the public on 14 December 2021.

“It is alleged that the suspects approached a couple on Table Mountain Road romancing in their vehicle.

“The couple was accused of public indecency and was made to pay an amount to avoid arrest,” said South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Dyantyi.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Rhoda and Meti both face a single count of corruption.

The pair was released on R3000 bail each.

Their next court appearance is expected on 13 April 2022 as the matter was postponed for further investigation.
