Two men were arrested in Brackenfell, Cape Town on Tuesday night, 15 February in connection with a robbery at the local post office.

BRACKENFELL SUSPECTS PROWLED THE AREA UNTIL NIGHTTIME

Cape Town Metro Police spokesperson Superintendent Ruth Solomons said Brackenfell Post Office was robbed on Tuesday.

Metro Police Officers were patrolling the area, as part of crime prevention duties, when they received a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle in the area. It was the same vehicle that the City’s CCTV cameras spotted speeding away from the scene of the armed robbery earlier on.

Solomons said CCTV camera operators spied the vehicle stalking the Brackenfell area at approximately 22:00.

The vehicle was stopped on the R300 near the Van Riebeeck off-ramp in the direction of the N2 highway.

“Officers found a large amount of money under the driver’s seat covered with a cloth and around R15 000 in the passengers’ possession. The total amounted to R32 279,” said Solomons.

The suspects – aged 27 and 37 – were unable to offer an explanation for the money and were subsequently arrested.

They were charged with Business Robbery. The Brackenfell police station has taken over the investigation.

Last week, the Durbanville Post Office was allegedly hit by five armed robbers who held staff at gunpoint before fleeing with R50 000 in cash, according to the Cape Argus.
