Sinovuyo Canta has laid a complaint of assault against a security guard at the Livingstone Hospital in Nelson Mandela bay following an incident where security reportedly tried to get hold of footage canta and a friend had taken of nurses at the hospital allegedly neglecting injured patients.

Canta and Lukhanyiso Matshoba had gone to Livingstone Hospital to visit Matshoba’s girlfriend, Zama Bongosa, who had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Canta told the Herald that the two of them had noticed nurses just ‘standing’ around while patients weren’t receiving attention.

“We were not getting any help, but the minute Matshoba started filming them, they were all suddenly there,” she said, adding that as soon as they started filming one of the nurses reacted.

“She was calling security. I told her he had stopped [filming]. Then I said: ‘Why are all of you here now?’ Then I started shooting video.”

That’s when a security guard allegedly grabbed Canta and forcefully tried to subdue her.

“I also felt punches in my stomach. He was trying to prevent others from seeing what he was doing,” she told the Herald, adding that the guard tried taking her phone.
