SA’s very own, Belinda Davids, a Whitney Houston tribute act, wowed the crowd at The Apollo Christmas Show over Christmas time when she sang one of Whitney Houston’s classic hit-songs ‘I will always love you’.

Yesterday morning, her team shared the news on the Whitney Houston Show Facebook page. Belinda was invited to perform on Fox TV’s iconic Showtime At The Apollo, and knocked the crowd’s socks off before she received a standing ovation. The show also featured other artists, including Snoop Dogg, DMX and Fifth Harmony, but judging by the crowds’ reaction, it looks like Belinda was a real fan-favourite over the evening.

According to EWN, the singer is from Port Elizabeth and started performing at the age of 14. While she was signed by record labels before, Davids said it never worked out.

“Because I have such a passion for singing and music, I never gave up. I have two boys and I think they’re my driving force,” the single mother explains in the video. “I am a mother first, then I am a singer so it’s more a matter of doing it for them.”

Before she went on to perform, she said performing at The Apollo is ‘butterflies’. “The audience are so familiar with the other artists that are performing, so you’re either as good or better, but you can’t be less.”
