Malema’s deputy had a few harsh truths to share with MPs, but not everyone was as receptive.

Ok sure he was quoting Lenin which, as history has shown, hasn’t ever worked out well when the old man’s ideology is put into practice; but we can forgive Floyd Shivambu for grasping at revolutionary literature when there is so little of it — mostly because revolutionaries tend to opt for burning books rather than reading them — that advocates for nationalisation and overt state intervention in the private sector.

Mostly, because despite missing a few beats, Shivambu actually got to school his fellow MPs on a few harsh truths about the South African economy, while — and here’s the important part — suggesting sensible, practical solutions aimed at helping to level the economic playing field.

Look, standing up in front of a room of opposition MPs is no mean feat, but even more stressful is punching holes in the ruling party’s economic failures while MPs heckle you for speaking the truth.

Shortly after kicking off his speech, the EFF deputy had a little go at the ANC’s internal politics and how it’s possibly affecting the party’s ability to lead.

“While the factions of the ruling party are busy competing in terms of who defines ‘radical economic transformation’,” Shivambu said, audibly irking a few ANC members.

He went on to explain the breakdown of the South African financial services — particularly banking — industry and its almost R8.9 trillion market, of which only about R400 billion is in the hands of black people.

Have a look as Malema’s second in command breaks it down, and schools a few MPs in the process:
