He might only be an ordinary ANC MP now, but former finance minister — and bane of freeloading ANC members — Pravin Gordhan has lost none of his fire.

Speaking after the South African Communist Party’s recent conference, where Jacob Zuma was visibly absent — likely to avoid being booed by the Tripartite Alliance again — Gordhan made it clear that crime in whatever form must be punished, but added that it would seem that those currently involved in state capture and corruption do so with the knowledge that they are protected.

Stopping just short of naming the Guptas, Gordhan said that whether it’s a family or individual, justice must be done.
