Just because they’re rubber bullets doesn’t mean you can fire them at close range, and certainly not willy nilly.

A report by eNCA’s Michael Appel has shed light on a shooting incident involving the SAPS and a woman from the Sebokeng community just south of Johannesburg.

In the video you can see the woman – dressed in red – standing close to the police officers holding a child; the group argue and one of the cops fires their gun at the woman. The Independent – lol – Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) – an organisation whose newly appointed head has a criminal record himself – has confirmed that an investigation into the matter is underway, but the woman’s family claims the police are covering up the incident.

The cops claim the woman hit one of their firearms, which is why it discharged, and the police have opened a case against her as she lays in hospital. Once she’s well, she’ll face charges of public violence and assault, but her family plans on laying counter-charges against the cops.
