Watch: Charlize Theron gushes about beautiful SA and Mrs Balls Chutney [video]

Charlize Theron says South Africa is an incredible place and that those ‘who’ve never been should definitely go!’

In a recent interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, the South African-born actress gushed about South Africa, Mrs Balls Chutney and the Afrikaans language – which she still constantly speaks with her mother.

“I really kind of learned English when I was 19 because I had to learn to do an American accent. But predominantly where I grew up, most people just spoke Afrikaans. So I never really had practice in English.”

She also mentions that her children, 5-year-old Jackson and daughter, August are learning to speak a bit of Afrikaans. “They’re picking up on things,” she says. “We have to watch out. It used to be a secretive language between us to talk about adult things.”

Now it seems her oldest one is picking up on certain words…

The two hosts also asked Charlize if there really is such a thing as Mrs Balls Chutney. “We put it on anything,” Charlize answered in return. “It’s a very big brand in South Africa. I’ll put it on Spaghetti Bolognaise.”

It seems the 41-year-old actress still visits SA as well. She mentions that she mostly visits in the winter because her children have summer holiday in the US over that time.

This isn’t the first time this year Charlize talked about her South African roots though.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Charlize mentioned that she played “unusual” sports called netball and korfball when she grew up in SA. As you can imagine, Jimmy actually got her a korfball to make a three-point shoot.
