In some incredible footage filmed in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park., a bull shark bravely tries to take a bite out of a hippo while it bathes with its 10-strong herd of friends.
It isn’t clear when exactly the footage was captured, but it seems the incredible footage has been making the rounds on the internet again.
The footage was captured on camera by Stacey Farrell, a tour operator from Heritage Tours and Safaris, which operates in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
According to reports, Farrell was on a hippo and crocodile safari when she spotted the sneaky bull shark in the waters.
It was a small bull shark and the last thing she expected was for it to attack a hippo – which could have been more than double its size.
“While we were on a hippo and crocodile safari, we spotted a small bull shark swimming close to a pod of hippos,” she reportedly told Latest Sightings who also uploaded the video on their YouTube channel. “We stopped the boat along the bank, so we could watch the hippos return to the water.
“Since hippos defecate in the water, this draws a lot of fish. If there are a lot of fish, it grabs the attention of the nearby sharks looking for a quick meal.
“This water isn’t very clear, causing visibility to be very low. This made the shark a bit disorientated and it started swimming right into the hippos. This caused the hippos to get angry and start charging the shark. Luckily for the shark, it was much faster than the hippos and managed to swim away without serious damage.”
The video featuring this rare sight has already clocked in 24,738 views and counting.
