Johannesburg executive mayor Kabelo Gwamanda compared himself to Democratic Alliance leader (DA) John Steeninhuisen when asked about his academic qualifications. Gwamanda was elected mayor of Johannesburg following a metropolitan municipality special meeting in the City of Joburg Council Chamber on 5 May. He beat ActionSA’s Funzi Ngobeni and Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Mpho Phalatse by 139 to 59 and 68 votes respectively.

The newly elected mayor was also meant to respond to these allegations at a media briefing, but he failed to show up. During the Ke Kasi Ya Rona programme in Alexandra that took place recently, Gwamanda was asked what his highest level of education was.
